During his recent visit to Indonesia, Kumi Naidoo (Greenpeace International Executive Director) and a Greenpeace team flew over Sumatra to bear witness to the forest destruction that is happening there.
Rainforests and carbon-rich peatlands in Indonesia are being destroyed at such a rate that Indonesia is now the world's third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, after the US and China. The habitats of endangered species like the orang-utan and Sumatran tiger are disappearing. The homes and livelihoods of indigenous communities are being destroyed.
Greenpeace is campaigning to end the destruction of Indonesia's rainforests and carbon-rich peatlands. Indonesia and Norway now have a chance to change history and to end the destruction of Indonesia's rainforests and carbon-rich peatlands.
