Bluefin tuna: Jewel of the Mediterranean

Following the decline in Western Atlantic and South Pacific bluefin tuna stocks, the eastern stock of the northern bluefin tuna population has become the most important bluefin tuna fishery worldwide. Catches in this fishery take place mainly in the Mediterranean Sea, which has suffered from serious mismanagement over the last decade - including one of the highest levels of illegal fishing in the world.
