A local fisherman standing ankle deep in oil spilled on the beaches near his home. The spill began on August 11 when Solar I, a Petron-chartered single hull vessel carrying 2.1 million litres of oil sank in the Guimaras Strait, about 500km southeast of Manila. According to Coast guard district commander Capt Luis Tuazon about 350 000 litres of oil have already spilled from the tanker.
