Humanitarian and medical aid organised by Medecins Sans Frontiere is unloaded from the Greenpeace flagship, Rainbow Warrior. Shipments by sea are essential since most of the west coast of Aceh is not accessible by road. The areas were severely damaged by the tsunami disaster on the December 26, 2004. The risk of infections from injuries and epidemics is huge. The survivors need medical care, food, clean water and shelter. MSF is currently working in the town's hospital and has mobile clinics. Long term action is needed to rebuild along the west coast of Sumatra Island.
