9th November 2012. Area of natural beauty within the concession area leased by Herakles Farms in the coastal rainforest of Cameroon. Despite lacking a Presidential Decree granting the concession, as required by Cameroonian law. The concession area is in a biodiversity hotspot, home to endangered species including forest elephants and chimpanzees, and it provides a crucial migration corridor for these animals between five protected areas. Local people, who depend on the forest to provide food, medicine and building materials, have protested against the project and have faced intimidation and arrest as a result.
