Kumi Naidoo scales Arctic oil rig

An inflatable speedboat carrying Kumi and one companion was launched from the Greenpeace ship Esperanza. It evaded a Danish navy warship that has been circling the rig for several weeks then he and one companion climbed a 30 metre ladder up the outside of one of the platform’s giant legs.

As well as making a personal plea for the company to end its Arctic oil drilling operation, Kumi delivered the names of 50,000 people who’d also asked Cairn to publish it’s secret oil spill response plan. Read the full story and see the video here.

At 6:45am on the 17th of June Kumi Naidoo, the Executive Director of Greenpeace International, entered an exclusion zone and scaled a controversial Arctic oil rig 120km off the coast of Greenland.
