All subspecies of chimpanzee are listed as ‘endangered’ by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Chimpanzee subspecies that occurs in the project area of Herakles Farms is the “Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzee” . Scientists estimate that as little as 3,500 individuals may exist in the wild. This project, if it is allowed to go ahead, would put the species under even more pressure. Chimpanzee photographed at the Mefou, National Park, Cameroon.
