In February 2009, international peaceful protests took place across the world calling for justice for Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki, known as the 'Tokyo Two', and justice for the whales. The Tokyo Two were charged with theft and trespass after they exposed a major scandal around the embezzlement of whale meat from the Japanese government-sponsored whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
