With the COP17 in Durban coming up later this month, Greenpeace activists took action this morning inside the construction site of South African utility firm ESKOM’s latest colossal coal-fired power plant, Kusile. Kusile, which is near Durban, will be the world's fourth largest coal-fired power plant.
The activists locked themselves to the plant's gates, scaled the site's crane, calling on the company and the South African government to quit its coal addiction and instead move towards renewable energy projects and green jobs. Using his solar-powered tools, activist Mike has been blogging from 110m up on the site's crane about how coal has no future.

Confronting Kusile: Climate Killer

I have read a few articles about Kusile and it seems that they have made some progress in terms of producing cleaner electricity. They have tried to take as much into consideration as possible while still being able to provide many jobs for South Africans for many years to come. I understand renewable energy sources but what would be used to provide everything Kusile is going to provide. Solar or wind devices perhaps but they are low maintenance and wont help feed the mouths of today. I think the progress is slow in cleaning up this form of generating power but progress at least.
