Feature story - March 19, 2002
A huge ice shelf in Antarctica has collapsed in the space of only a month. The Larsen B ice shelf was 200m thick and 3250 km².
The collapse is due to unprecedented warming in the region in
the last 50 years.
In 1997 a Greenpeace expedition to the region discovered a large
crack in the ice shelf and predicted a collapse of the ice shelf in
the near future.
