The six exporting plywood and veneer companies of the Amazonas state Amaplac, Carolina, Cifec, Compensa, CIM and Gethal are or have been involved with illegal logging in the past two and a half years. In 1998, they were responsible for 86.7 percent of the total exports of the Manaus and Itacoatiara ports, within the Amazonas state.
