A legal request by the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) for the initiation of an environmental impact assessment regarding the life-extension of a coal-fired power plant in the Czech Republic, known as Prunerov II.

Executive summary: This document gives the background information to the legal request by the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) concerning the Prunerov II coal-fired power plant, planned by the company CEZ in the Czech Republic. The request calls for an initiation of a transboundary environmental impact assessment, to examine the expansion and life-extension of the plant, based on the threat it poses as a major carbon emitter to climate change, which threatens the continued peaceful existance of the FSM. It is the first legal challenge of this kind made by one country to another, reflecting the global threat climate change that irresponsible energy policies contribute to.
