Total costs incurred around the world as a result of LL601 rice contamination are estimated in the range of $741 million to $1.285 billion. Farmers who incurred direct and indirect losses as a result of Liberty Link rice contamination are attempting to recoup their costs through class action litigation against Bayer CropScience LP, Riceland Foods and Producers Rice Mill.

Maize Under Threat Briefing Paper

The Mexican government is on the verge of approving field trials of GE maize for the first time since 1998, when it imposed a moratorium on the cultivation of GE maize. The government took this strong measure in 1998 because of significant scientific concern, from within and outside of Mexico, about the possible threat that GE maize posed to the center of maize diversity. Mexico is the birthplace of maize - its center of origin - and is still home to the priceless diversity of hundreds of native varieties of maize.

Genetic engineering exposed

Genes are the tiny building blocks that make up every living thing. Genetic engineering is when genes from plants, animals or bacteria are inserted into plants or animals in a laboratory to create new organisms that would not occur naturally. The new organism made by this method is called a genetically engineered organism or GE organism. This is very different from normal breeding where related plants are crossed.

Contamination by Genetically Engineered Papaya in Thailand

This report shows the history of GE papaya contamination in Thailand. It has been two years since facts were made public that a research station under the Thai Government had illegally sold and distributed genetically engineered (GE) contaminated papaya seeds to farmers. Subsequent investigations by an independent constitutional body and by NGOs found GE contamination in the environment.
