Greenpeace urges France to ban GE crops and calls on European governments to follow suit

Greenpeace activists today hung a 12 by 3 metre banner reading “Ban GMO’s NOW” on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris urging the French government to ban genetically modified organisms. The government is expected to decide in the next few days on the future regulation of genetically modified, or genetically engineered, crops.

Greenpeace renews call on Anheuser-Busch to come clean over GE policy

Anheuser-Busch, the brewer of Budweiser beer, has attempted to defend its use of an untested, experimental strain of genetically engineered (GE) rice to brew beer for consumption in the United States. The company has accused Greenpeace International of making misleading, false and defamatory statements about its operations, allegations which Greenpeace strenuously denies.

New study reveals signs of toxicity of GE maize approved for human consumption

Laboratory rats, fed with a genetically engineered (GE) maize produced by Monsanto, have shown signs of toxicity in kidney and liver, according to a new study.(1) This is the first time that a GE product which has been cleared for use as food for humans and animals has shown signs of toxic effects on internal organs.

GE rice industry facing meltdown as global tide of rejection grows

The global rejection of genetically engineered rice is revealed today as 41 of the world’s biggest exporters, processors and retailers issued written commitments to stay GE free. The worldwide tide of opposition is reflected in the new Greenpeace report, ‘Rice Industry in Crisis.’
