Countdown to Climate Summit arrives in Beijing

With only nine months left until the UN climate summit in Copenhagen, Greenpeace China has brought the countdown clock to Beijing. Activists turned one of Beijing's ancient city gates into a gigantic countdown clock marking the time left till the UN climate summit in Copenhagen.

No climate bail-out from European Summit

EU governments may feel that they are world leaders on climate change, but they lag far behind the science and the growing world movement of people demanding serious action. European heads of state agreed to raise money for developing countries to tackle climate change at the EU Spring Summit in Brussels today, but failed to put any money on the table to support their plans.

VICTORY! Polish coal mine construction halted

We are delighted that the construction of an open-pit coal mine in Poland, where we set up a Climate Rescue Station in December 2008, has been suspended. This is a significant win in our battle against the mine, which would have lead to around 50 million tonnes of CO2 being released into the atmosphere, the displacement of hundreds of local people, water pollution and land destruction in an ecosystem protected under the Natura 2000 network.

VICTORY! Philips accepts recycling responsibility

We are delighted that Philips has announced a change in its recycling policy, taking responsibility for the cost of recycling its own products. Earlier this week Philips confirmed that these costs should no longer be paid directly by its customers through an additional fixed fee but instead come closer to being part of the overall product price.
