Rainbow Warrior joins Balinese flotilla of hope for urgent climate action

A flotilla of fishing boats greeted the Greenpeace flagship, SV Rainbow Warrior, as she sailed into Benoa port Bali today. The fishing boats carried banners saying ‘Save Our Seas - Save Our Corals´ and ‘Climate Action Now´ urging government representatives at the UN Climate Change Conference to step up the fight against dangerous climate change.

Greenpeace urges European and African leaders to act against deforestation and climate change

Greenpeace International today urged political leaders from Europe and Africa, attending a joint summit in Lisbon, to play an active role in ending tropical deforestation which accounts for roughly one-fifth of global greenhouse emissions.

Greenpeace today launched a landmark proposal for reducing, and ultimately stopping, tropical deforestation while preserving forest biodiversity and respecting indigenous peoples’ rights. The initiative was launched at a side event of the Bali Climate Conference, featuring the Governors of Papua and Papua Barat, the provinces with the largest intact tropical forests in Indonesia.

CO2 levels rising faster than predicted - Greenpeace response

Responding to findings by the Global Carbon Project, published in the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” this week, that atmospheric CO2 levels have risen 35% faster than expected since 2000, Gavin Edwards, Head of Climate at Greenpeace International said: “Today’s extremely worrying findings add to the overwhelming scientific evidence of the intensity of the climate crisis. We have no more time to waste in tackling climate change.
