Investigation of Exxon front group

Did conservative elements in the White House provoke an Exxon front group to sue EPA to suppress a report on climate change? That's the question that two State Attorney Generals have asked US Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate, after Greenpeace uncovered a routine email in a Freedom of Information Act request.

No to new nukes: go wind

Since the French power authority has refused to build wind farms, we built our own this morning on the grounds of a nuclear power plant in Penly, France. We put ten wind turbines up to protest the French government decision to build another nuclear reactor on the site, despite a large nuclear energy overcapacity and the far more environmentally and economically sane option of investing in wind energy.

World Bank, Pentagon warn: climate changing

A world thrown into turmoil by drought, floods, typhoons. Whole countries rendered uninhabitable. The political capital of the Netherlands submerged. The borders of the US and Australia patrolled by armies firing into waves of starving boat people desperate to find a new home. Fishing boats armed with cannon to drive off competitors. Demands for access to water and farmland backed up with nuclear weapons. Sound like the ravings of doom-saying environmental extremists? It's actually from a report commissioned by the Pentagon on how to ready America for the coming climate Armageddon.

Exxon Valdez disaster- 15 years of lies

It is fifteen years since the devastating Exxon Valdez oil spill, which saw 11 million gallons of oil pouring into a pristine wilderness area in Prince William Sound, Alaska. US oil giant ExxonMobil should come clean about the true state of the site of the spill as new research shows that the Sound is still suffering from adverse effects of the massive oil pollution.

Top companies ditch climate-wrecking refrigeration

Unilever, Coca Cola and McDonalds have promised to phase out climate-killing chemicals in their refrigeration equipment. This announcement shows that refrigeration can be climate friendly. However other corporations and governments continue to promote or lobby for increased use of climate-wrecking gases.

Why climb a 700 foot smokestack?

The Bush administration has trashed US clean air laws by allowing power stations to install new equipment without adding pollution controls, and permitting coal-fired power plants to continue to release tons of mercury. This dirty energy also wreaks havoc on the environment, causing global warming, acid rain, and smog. That's why our activists are 700ft up a chimney in Pennsylvania to call for clean energy now!

Th!nk Again: Ford Does a U-Turn

Following a meeting yesterday with the Norwegian Transport Minister, Ford Europe has confirmed it will not scrap its US fleet of zero emission electric cars, but instead send them to eager customers in Norway.

Putin gives Kyoto green light

George Bush's government is out in the cold over Kyoto - and it's that old Cold War enemy, Russia, that's put it there. The Russian government has moved closer towards ratifying the crucial Kyoto climate change treaty. But while Bush hangs out in hurricane-ravaged Florida before his first election debate, the US government continues to criticise the Kyoto Treaty.

King tide pummels Kiribati

Patagonia revisited

The icefields in Patagonia are suffering from the fastest glacial retreat on Earth caused by global warming. Jorge Quinteros who first visited the area during an expedition 50 years ago, joined the Artic Sunrise to witness firsthand the speed of the devastation.
