Moving towards a clean energy future

Why climb a 700 foot smokestack?

The Bush administration has trashed US clean air laws by allowing power stations to install new equipment without adding pollution controls, and permitting coal-fired power plants to continue to release tons of mercury. This dirty energy also wreaks havoc on the environment, causing global warming, acid rain, and smog. That's why our activists are 700ft up a chimney in Pennsylvania to call for clean energy now!

A Thai hero for the planet

Charoen Wataksorn was murdered by gunmen outside his home in Thailand on June 22. Charoen was an experienced activist who worked closely with us in the successful battle against proposed coal power stations in Bo Nok and Ban Krut. He was unswerving in his dedication despite numerous threats against him and his family. He was murdered shortly after testifying to a parliamentary committee against powerful figures involved in community land grabs.

Welcome to a warmer world

Last year parts of Europe were experiencing the worst flooding for hundreds of years. Now Europe is sweltering in a continent-wide heat wave and fatal forest fires. This extreme weather is set to become more common as climate change gathers pace.

Postcards from Patagonia

Across the planet glaciers are retreating as temperatures rise and weather patterns change. Our ship, the Arctic Sunrise and her crew, is currently in Patagonia to highlight the impacts of climate change on the glaciers at the tip of South America. These glaciers are the fastest retreating glaciers on the globe as our demand for oil, gas and coal changes the climate of the Earth.

China's push for a renewable energy future

Take a minute to consider the following. What if the world's most populous nation had the necessity-driven willpower to develop the massive uptake of renewable energy like wind and solar power to offset the catastrophic effects of climate change and to secure clean, safe, abundant energy for 1.3 billion people?
