ExxonMobil in another 'messenger shooting' incident

Exxon subsidiary, Mobil Oil Australia is formally complaining to the Australian Press Council about an newspaper article containing Greenpeace quotes. The news piece ran in the Adelaide Advertiser as Mobil was preparing to take its first delivery of one of the most polluting fossil fuels on earth.

A fire recently broke out at a gas storage facility owned and managed by the largest oil company in the world, ExxonMobil. A thorough search of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data, in conjunction with the Working Group on Community Right-to-Know, has failed to turn up a Risk Management Plan (RMP) for the Staten Island ExxonMobil fuel storage facility.

We closed 119 Esso garages around the UK and blocked the entrance to the Esso HQ in Leatherhead in response to Esso's on-going campaign to keep the US hooked on oil, fuelling war and causing global warming.

How come we're the ones being arrested and not Exxon/Mobil executives? All we did was disrupt preparations for their annual general meeting, where they'll conduct business as usual. The real crime? Business as usual for ExxonMobil is frying the planet.

Exxon to staff: vote for oil

There's nothing nastier than a wounded tiger. ExxonMobil(Esso) is licking its wounds as Russia moves closer to ratifying the Kyoto protocol. But the world's number one environmental criminal is still fighting tooth and nail to deny the truth about climate change. The US government is increasingly isolated and Exxon is out to ensure its workers keep it that way by voting for US politicians who oppose action against global warming.

UPDATE: Esso loses in French court too! In July 2002, Esso France began legal action against Greenpeace in France over the StopEsso website, which uses a logo featuring a double dollar sign ($$) in place of the double "S" in the oil giant's red and blue logo. They sought to enjoin us against using the logo while the case was being decided, won that, but then lost on appeal. A French court today found against Esso, and for Greenpeace in a victory for freedom of expression on the web. StopEsso, a global coalition of groups including Greenpeace, is campaigning around the world to stop Esso from sabotaging international action to address climate change and has used the logo around the world since the campaign was launched in May 2001. Esso is the trademark under which Exxon/Mobil does business in many parts of the world outside of North America.
