The two Greenpeace Japan activists, arrested and charged for intercepting a box of whale meat illegally smuggled off the Japanese whaling fleet, have been released on bail, after 26 days in custody.

Activists charged for exposing whale meat scandal

Two Greenpeace peaceful protestors have been charged after they exposed a major scandal around the embezzlement of whale meat from the Japanese government-sponsored Southern Ocean whaling programme. The prosecutor in Aomori, Japan, today charged Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki with theft and trespass, and continue to be detained, despite widespread international protest.

Global Demand to release Greenpeace Activists in Japan Grows

Two Greenpeace Japan activists, arrested last Friday for exposing an embezzlement ring at the heart of the Japanese government's so-called scientific whaling programme have been ordered to spend a further nine days in jail without charge , after an appeal for them to be released was rejected by a court in Aomori.
