Two Greenpeace activists this evening unfurled a five by seven metre banner reading "Stop Nuclear Madness – Energy Revolution Now" during the opening ceremony of the World Energy Congress in Rome, Italy, attended by Romano Prodi, Italian Prime Minister.

CO2 levels rising faster than predicted - Greenpeace response

Responding to findings by the Global Carbon Project, published in the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” this week, that atmospheric CO2 levels have risen 35% faster than expected since 2000, Gavin Edwards, Head of Climate at Greenpeace International said: “Today’s extremely worrying findings add to the overwhelming scientific evidence of the intensity of the climate crisis. Greenpeace launches Forest Defenders Camp in Indonesia

Jakarta, 9 October 2007 - Greenpeace today opened the Forest Defenders Camp (FDC) in Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia, as part of its international effort to protect the world's remaining forests and the global climate prior to the Kyoto protocol climate negotiations taking place in Bali in December.

Fire at nuclear plant in Japan

"This fire and radioactive leakage reminds us yet again of the serious threats posed by nuclear power. There is a real risk in Japan, and globally, of larger earthquakes and other natural disasters, as well as of terrorist attacks that could lead to far more serious nuclear accidents," said Jan Beranek, Greenpeace International Nuclear Campaigner.
