It’s argued repeatedly that the production of solar energy-systems consumes more electricity than the system will ever produce itself. This statement is definitely wrong – the balance of energy has become positive long ago!

Independent results of research, for example by the institute of energy-systems at the ETH (Technical University) in Zürich prove it: systems of solar energy in midland Switzerland, including all technical assembly like cables, metal elevation, converter etc. need to run for a maximum of five years to generate as much energy as their production consumed. The newest installations only need 2 years – and systems of solar energy run for 30 years. The factor of profit, a number describing how much more energy is gained than the production of the device used up, is between 6 and 15, depending on the type of solar cell.

In contrast to this, fossil and nuclear plants get no positive output of energy. They not only consume energy and resources for their production and demolition, but during operation they also consume limited primary energy-carriers like coal, oil or gas. These materials are partly transformed into current thus largely in waste heat, emissions, ashes and other residues. Photovoltaic opens up an unique chance to produce the solar cells by means of solar energy. Like this the impact on humans and environment would be reduced to the most minimum imaginable.
