If not, you are visiting the right place to see the most significant and fun ever 'Energy Sumo Wrestling Championship' from Solar Generation. Where? At the Asian Development Bank (ADB) 40th Annual Meeting in Kyoto Japan. When? 3:00pm on May 07 2007 AD.

The competition - Begin!

Turning on the switch of the inflator, the fat sumo air-costume destroyed the girl's slim: Karla, Mr. Renewables from the Philippines, Aurélie, Mr. Nuclear from France, and me, Mr. Coal from China. Besides the wrestlers, Agnes, the SolarGeneration coordinator from Holland was the umpire and Indian girl Deepa was the narrator. At 3 o'clock, three barefoot wrestlers swinging walked into the 'arena' - the Grant Prince Hotel Media Centre and started the competition.

The first bout was severely taken place between the long lasting champion Mr. Coal and a strongest challenger Mr. Renewables. Imitating the heavy addiction of fossil fuels always threatens the determination and leadership of undertaking the real solution of climate change mitigation, Mr. Coal won by the sense of 'business as usual' and compromise. However, as the world experiencing more devastating impacts, urgent and effective actions broke the old regime of ignorance - world had been lead into the right track of using renewable energy and enhancing energy efficiency. Hence, in the second round, Mr. Renewable was fully empowered and conquered Mr. Coal as a piece of cake.

Nevertheless, in a new round, another brawny opponent Mr. Nuclear combated with Mr. Renewables whom powered by the hypothetic of lower CO2 emissions while contributing the dangerous catastrophe of nuclear accident. Being aware of this, Mr. Renewable outdid again. The winner's hands had been hanged with honor and proud, Mr. Renewables won the crown.

Invited Special audience

At the presentation ceremony, we got two special audiences who came from the delegation of Switzerland. Because a day before the Sumo wrestling championship, there was a meeting of Governor's Statement, Solar Generation selected the best and worst country statement in according to the relevance of environmental issues especially focused on the determination and leadership regards climate change mitigation. Countries of UK, Norway, Germany, Switzerland France, Finland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal showed their dedication to fight against climate change world wide, while the worst belonged to Japan who decided to fund more nuclear project in Asia and Pacific region. So on the next day, before the launch of the Sumo wrestling, we went to the country delegation offices and invited several delegates to join in the exciting sumo show. Since it was the last day of the ADB meeting, most of the delegates or ministers were on the business meeting, yet fortunately, we successfully got the participation from the Switzerland office.

It was probably because I was so excited to find the delegates in the joint office of the UK, Switzerland, and Turkey since at most of the offices, there were no one there. So when I met the delegate who actually came from Turkey, I supposed that he was the delegate of the UK. It was good that he didn't mind and agreed to be at the show on time, though eventually we didn't find him there. After this embarrassing talking with the Turkish delegate, there was a another person came out from the office, who I remembered that I saw him on the Country statement meeting a day before, so I directly asked him does he come from the Switzerland delegation, he was very surprise at the beginning, then delighted he was to be recognized as I shining star. Then we told him that we come from Solar Generation, in representing the young generation to attend this ADB meeting in arousing the commitment of the delegates to consider our future and the future generations' welfare to switch their investment from the dirty energy to build up more fund and effectively implement the projects of renewable energy and energy efficiency. In addition, we also told the delegates that our exactly very interesting sumo wrestling championship and sent them the invitation letter. The young guy was very delighted to hear these and showed the invitation to another lady who seems like in a higher position. The lady was even more excited then he did, she told us she was really want to see the Japanese Sumo wrestling, but the meeting was so busy that she could not have time to go out to see. See, that's the chance for us to play this sumo show, when she read our letter to be there on time was what she said. And it was definitely inspiring to get the engagement of the country delegates.

End

There was a short declaration from the losers and the winner. In playing the role of different energy scenarios, the losers, Mr. Coal and Mr. Nuclear regretted and apologized to contribute the CO2 emission which destructed people's life. And we announce the Worst title to the country of Japan since it declares to fund more nuclear powers in Asia. Then Mr. Renewables handed the prize - a paper fan with the message of "CLEAN" to the delegates of Switzerland as the nice ending of the sumo wrestling championship.

Symbolizing and orienting the right and wise energy scenario should be from the youth perspective and advocation, the SolarGeneration energy sumo wrestling got a lot of laugh, praise and applause from the audience - the media people, the NGO workers, the ADB staff, the ADB delegates and even the securities. This is one of the most highlights this group of young people did during the ADB meeting. From their smile, we felt a lot of hope, the hope of being positive and determined to ignite more minds to deliberate the real solution of powering our life in a sustainable and environmental friendly way in the Asia Pacific region as well as the whole world. We felt encouraged by the reactions from the audience because beyond the humoristic show the awareness and importance of renewable energy and energy efficiency had been spread.
