Greenpeace exposes Stolen 'Scientific' Whale Meat Scandal - Investigation by Japan's Public Prosecutors Demanded

A box of whale meat illicitly removed by crew of the Nisshin Maru, the whaling factory ship, following this year's Southern Ocean whale hunt was put on display by Greenpeace activists in Tokyo this morning, prior to being handed over to the Public Prosecutor's office in Tokyo as evidence of wide-scale corruption at the heart of the Japanese government-backed, sham scientific whaling operation in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Greenpeace Exposes Tuna Pirate in the High Seas

Today Greenpeace exposed an illegal tuna purse seiner, the Queen Evelyn 168, in a pocket of international waters between Papua New Guinea and the Federated States of Micronesia. This Philippines-flagged vessel was at the site of a transfer of tuna between her sister vessel and a refrigerated mothership, the Kenken 888. It is likely that a transfer of fish at sea involving an illegal vessel was about to occur, but the arrival of Greenpeace prevented it from taking place as the vessels immediately separated and fled.

From 12-16 May, governments from around the world will gather in Bonn, Germany to hammer out the final details of global liability and redress measures for damage caused by genetically engineered (GE) organisms. Greenpeace will attend the 4th meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (1), telling governments “GE polluters must pay for the damage their crops wreak on the environment, on farmers, and on human health.”

Greenpeace confiscates ‘wall of death’ fishing net in the Mediterranean Sea

Activists onboard the Greenpeace vessel, Arctic Sunrise, confronted Italian fishing “pirates” in the Mediterranean Sea and confiscated almost two kilometres of illegal driftnet containing dead undersized bluefin tuna and a small sea turtle that was later released alive.

Greenpeace activists halt tuna trading at European Seafood Exposition

Eighty Greenpeace activists from 15 countries today closed down the stands of five large tuna suppliers at the European Seafood Exposition. Greenpeace is calling on the companies to stop trading in threatened bluefin, yellowfin and bigeye tuna and other unsustainably-caught tuna until stocks recover.
