Purpose

  • Lead and direct the operations of the Fundraising Department in meeting its responsibility to acquire and retain donors in the eastern Mediterranean.
  • Develop the fundraising strategy to meet or exceed five year plan objectives and implement a yearly fundraising plan in support of this.
  • Develop a sustainable and cost effective fundraising portfolio producing strong revenue growth in support of Greenpeace Mediterranean’s strategic aims.
  • Develop the fundraising team, providing effective leadership to enable and motivate team members to operate to their full potential.

Responsibilities

Fundraising and development

  1. Ensure that fundraising income is maximised in line with the fundraising strategy.
  2. Manage and monitor fundraising programmes to ensure that the annual fundraising income meets targets, and that acquisition and retention programmes achieve the supporter number objectives.
  3. Creatively identify and implement new opportunities both in revenue streams/products and in fundraising channels, for example new media fundraising or others.
  4. Develop performance against key indicators, in terms of Return on Investment, attrition, average donation, etc.
  5. Review and maintain fundraising systems and procedures.
  6. Develop systems to manage key relationships and monitor progress and performance.
  7. Prepare annual and monthly budgets on time including the fundraising component of the annual Organisational Development Plans.
  8. Manage revenue and expenditure budgets within approved limits.
  9. Work closely with the Finance Department to prepare standard monthly and annual income and expenditure reports and any other fundraising reports that may be requested via the Executive Director.
  10. Work closely with the Finance Director to reconcile income figures with the records of the Finance department.
  11. Ensure that fundraising activities comply with the requirements of local legislation.
  12. Develop and maintain knowledge of banking, VAT and tax benefit aspects, to assess opportunities or threats within the fundraising programmes.
  13. Collaborate effectively with the communications department to ensure coherence with the communications strategy, and for cross departmental integration on aspects such as pro-bono work, web, and campaign communications.
  14. Promote integration with campaign projects, to maximise potential impact on fundraising programmes, and develop supporter mobilisation.

Staff development

  1. Build, support and manage departmental staff, encouraging innovation and responsibility.
  2. Set and review regular departmental and staff objectives through the Evaluation and Learning Cycle process. Provide the training and support needed to meet these objectives to all office staff.
  3. Communicate key departmental and organisational issues and decisions within the department.

Senior Management

  1. As a member of a Greenpeace Senior Management Team, maintain a high commitment to Greenpeace values and meeting campaign goals.
  2. Through the SMT, contribute to the development and effectiveness of GP Med. This includes: developing and implementing organisational strategies, policies and plans; addressing issues; and supporting and communicating decisions taken by the other Directors, the Executive Director and the Board.
  3. Maintain productive and effective working relationship with the Fundraising and Development Units at GPI and with the other offices of Greenpeace.
  4. Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 4 years experience in fundraising and management.
  • Leadership qualities. Committed to furthering Greenpeace’s campaign goals as well as the organizational development of GP Mediterranean. Able to inspire team spirit and resolve conflicts.
  • Management qualities. Capacity to prepare and present detailed and realistic fundraising plans. Able to support and guide staff at distance, work with sensitive information, work with minimal supervision, deal with stressful situations and meet deadlines.
  • International Experience. Able to travel and work in Greenpeace Mediterranean offices and other locations as needed. Able to work in and adapt to local cultures.
