International — “Greenpeace welcomes North Korea’s announcement on commitment to dismantle nuclear facilities. This achievement proves that international involvement to reduce regional nuclear tension can assist in building a more safe and secure future”, said Nicola Davies, of Greenpeace International.

We hope that the Middle-East will follow suit with this substantial progress. This, especially given the fact that the Middle-East is undoubtedly one of the most volatile regions, with practically the entire region announcing intentions to develop a nuclear program, in addition to those of Iran and Israel.

The North Korea example exhibits that there is no technological difference between nuclear energy and nuclear weapons, which means that any nuclear technology is an opening to disaster. Therefore, the countries of our region must begin to act towards the establishment of a nuclear-free Middle-East, as the only alternative to the region’s expedited nuclearisation”, Davies concluded.
