A Pathway to a Sustainable and Clean Energy Future for the Middle East is one of ten regional energy scenarios commissioned by Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) from the Department of Systems Analysis and Technology Assessment (Institute of Technical Thermodynamics) at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). It was developed in conjunction with scientists and engineers from universities, institutes and the renewable energy industry around the world.

Overall the reports explain the necessity and demonstrate the feasibility of reducing forecast global energy consumption through energy efficiency and conservation measures and increasing the share of supply from renewable energy sources to 50% by 2050. This regional report highlights the benefits of a sustainable energy path for the Middle East. It also sets out the framework to achieve an energy system that meets the needs of the regions’ people without compromising their environment, security or economies.
