Climate change is the defining issue of our generation. The choices we all make today will determine world inherited by the next generation. Not surprisingly then, we find that young people are often the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic to do what is necessary to make a difference.
The Greenpeace Climate Challenge is a project designed to empower young people to play their part in preventing climate change by helping them to see how easily they can make a big difference, both in their own lives and by inspiring and educating their communities. At the same time the project will raise money for their school and for Greenpeace to enable us to continue our vital work in showing people, young and old, how we can prevent climate change.
Those taking part in The Challenge will each be given a logbook filled with climate saving tasks they can do, with points awarded for successful completion of each. These tasks range from cycling to school (60 points/day), to organising a climate movie showing (80 points). Each student will ask for sponsors to support them in the challenge by making a donation. We have some awesome prizes for the top fundraisers and the top point scorers.
The
project is designed to work with our Climate Changers Education CD which was especially
written by a teacher to fit the curriculum and suitable for students of a
variety of ages.
Greenpeace would love to have your school aboard for the challenge which will run up until 30th November 2008! We will provide all the materials and support needed to run the project and where possible we will organise speakers to attend the schools to give a talk.
