Just like the people profiled on this page, the actions you can take to reduce your impact can range from the small to the big.
“Being the Change” is not about being environmentally ”perfect”, it’s about doing what you can, in ways that work for you, to make a difference. Here are some ideas.
Change the lightbulbs
One of the easiest and simplest things we can all do. Compact
fluorescent (CFL) bulbs last much longer and use much less energy,
saving you money long-term.
Leave the car at home
Many of us are dependent on cars to get around, but for a lot of
trips there are other options. Take the train or the bus, or, if
you don't have to go far, walk or cycle.
Buy local
Shop at your local farmers market, or check the origin of goods
at your supermarket. Fresh, local, and in-season food means fewer
carbon miles (and it's yummier).
Inspire others
Check out www.BeTheChange.org.nz and join the growing community
of people making a difference. You can tell others about your
actions, and share ideas with people around New Zealand who are
doing something about climate change.
