Following the success of the first Clean Energy Guide, we decided to do it all again. Click here to change to a cleaner electricty provider.
The Clean Energy Guide 2007
Thanks to the first guide, thousands more New Zealanders are now
making the connection between the electricity they use at home and
the impact on the climate. Many have translated this into
meaningful action by switching to a cleaner electricity provider or
emailing the not-so-good companies to urge them to invest in
renewable energy.
This has sent a powerful message to all energy providers.
Consumer action also helped put a stop to Mighty River Power's
Marsden B coal-fired power station plans, which were dropped in
March this year.
So we've reviewed the Clean Energy Guide and this time round
we've included some more information. We've taken into account each
company's energy efficiency and conservation programs, because
reducing energy use is just as important for a sustainable future
as choosing a cleaner electricity provider.
We've also assessed each company on whether they encourage
households to generate their own renewable electricity through
offering net metering (where households can be paid to feed any
excess electricity they generate back into the grid).
