The unsung heroes of the Sign On campaign - our committed volunteers- were at it again over the weekend, collecting hundreds of signatures out on the mean streets of Auckland. This time, they went polar. Donning Greenpeace's iconic polar bear outfit, the team Signed On almost 600 people and also ended up recruiting a few new volunteers (some passer bys were so concerned by the plight of our Arctic-dwelling friend -it's predicted that very soon there will be no summer ice left in the Arctic- that they demanded clip boards and Sign On forms and began collecting signatures on the spot).
One volunteer, Falk, reckoned the bear outfit is a ticket to social freedom. "You can do things in that costume which you would never ordinarily do. After signing people on, i asked them if they wanted a hug. And almost everyone said yes. I have never hugged so many girls in one day!"
