Greenpeace New Zealand Programme Director Carmen Gravatt comments on the findings in the report ‘Drilling for oil and gas in New Zealand’ released by the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment Jan Wright today.
“The report is yet another indictment of the government’s cowboy approach when it comes to protecting our precious land and water as it pursues its agenda to frack, drill and mine at any cost.
“The government’s short-term pursuit of dirty fossil fuels has blinded them to the massive potential of clean technology to create thousands of jobs for New Zealanders.
“It’s clear that regulations around fracking are totally inadequate. There must be an immediate ban on this industry in New Zealand.”
