The submission period on the future of shark finning in New Zealand has now closed. Thank you for showingthat you care about protecting our oceans and the welfare of sharks.

Even though this action has closed, you can still help us make the world a safer place for sharks here.

Last year the NZ Government released a proposal that would see shark finning made illegal within three years. Then, following 45,000 public submissions they accepted the proposal, and it has now been brought forward - with a few changes. Unfortunately some of these changes mean that two important shark species – mako and porbeagle – are not properly covered.

As mako and porbeagle sharks appear on the IUCN Redlist of Threatened Species it is vital that both species receive the best possible protection.

Use this form to tell the Government to close this loophole and ban shark finning properly in New Zealand.
