It's about time New Zealand energy companies, especially state owned companies like Genesis, stop trying to brand themselves as caring and clean, when in reality they are steadily increasing the threat of climate change.
The Huntly power station owned by Genesis Energy is the single biggest source of carbon dioxide emissions in New Zealand. Furthermore, it's mainly due to an increase in coal use at Hunlty that carbon dioxide emissions from coal for electricity production in NZ have leapt 889% between 1990 and 2005.
It's ironic that the Government is proposing a carbon-neutral New Zealand, when Genesis - a State Owned Enterprise - is pumping such massive quantities of carbon into the air every day. Do as we say, not as we do perhaps?
