We really appreciate the time and commitment of our volunteers. There is a lot of saving the planet to do and it needs all the help it can get!
To understand what is involved in being a volunteer please read the information below…
What do we need from our volunteers?
We need people who are willing to commit to a task and who are reliable. You can volunteer for a task or project that is ongoing and requires some level of commitment, or you can volunteer on a more casual basis.
If you are really keen to volunteer, please be proactive and contact the Volunteer Coordinator well ahead of the time you have free to volunteer.
We're not able to create volunteer jobs tailor-made to each person’s skills and personality but if you are willing to muck in and just get things done, email or give us a call!
What skills do you need to volunteer?
We need a variety of skills. Some examples of roles/tasks where volunteers can help…
- At the Auckland office with data entry, administration tasks, painting banners, and generally mucking in where needed.
- Skills based – graphic designer, artist, scientist, computer techy stuff, research, trades.
- Out and about – educating, information stalls, fundraising.
- Action – putting yourself on the line what you believe in.
Where can you volunteer?
Our main office is in Auckland, and this means the majority of the hands-on and regular volunteering opportunities are Auckland area based, but you can volunteer from anywhere in the country.
How do you become a volunteer?
Please complete the
volunteer registration form and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Please be aware that we may ask for your CV or references at any point in your volunteering. It helps us make appropriate choices of matching volunteers to tasks.
What happens after you register as a volunteer?
- You will receive a welcome letter from us, the latest magazine, a Greenpeace supporter sticker and an invite to the next volunteers evening.
- You will receive the volunteers update, which includes campaign news, information about upcoming volunteer opportunities, and dates for volunteer events.
- The volunteer evenings are held in the Auckland office every 6-8 weeks. This involves an induction for new volunteers, which covers the history and mission of Greenpeace, how the organisation works and gives you insights into the current campaigns. It is a chance to learn more about Greenpeace, get acquainted with the building, get a taste of how you can be involved and meet other volunteers and staff. We run a work party, provide snacks and will often host a talk on a particular topic, a film, or a discussion.
What do you get out of it?
- Meet other fantastic people
- Learn more about our environment and Greenpeace
- New skills and training if task appropriate
- Job experience for your CV
- A great sense of satisfaction
Does volunteering really make a difference to Greenpeace?
- The time, skills and passion that volunteers bring to Greenpeace make a huge difference. We couldn’t do what we do without volunteers!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. We look forward to meeting you.
