Jon Burgvald from Denmark, 21, a student of sociology; plays
basketball, likes reading and collects musical records. Lake Baikal
is a unique natural object. It is marvelous and its biological
diversity is exceptional. For me this is one of the most important
places in the world to preserve.
Anastasia Ponomareva (26), a cook, and her son Andrey (7). They
like badminton and movies. Nastia works at an advertising agency,
Andrey is a schoolboy. First of all, the Baikal is our pride.
Second, it is the place to take a vacation like nowhere else.
Andrey Petrov Head of Greenpeace camp, geographer -
environmentalist from Moscow, likes travelling.
For me the Baikal is first of all a unique natural object, an
absolutely exceptional one. Moreover, the lake has its special
healing atmosphere.
What do you like most? The nature and people as its integral
part.
An environmental tourist must: act absolutely harmonically with
the nature, leaving nothing behind himself.
What can you wish to the humankind? To preserve and protect
these few things the humankind hasn't yet destroyed or
reprocessed.
Moujbani Medi, 29, a volunteer from Tunisia, likes studying
different cultures, assisting environmental and human rights
organizations, likes diving and agriculture.
"I made up my mind to take part in the Greenpeace camp to help
every way I can and joined those people who try to do something
necessary for the Mother Nature".
For me lake Baikal is a part of our Earth and a priceless
natural reservoir of fresh water, which must be preserved by all
means. We must preserve it for the next generations and for the
environment itself.
What can you wish to the humankind? As a native American chief
said, "We belong to the Earth, not the Earth belongs to us".
Ekaterina Zaspa, camp's physician, from Moscow. Likes travelling
and arts.
For me the Baikal means - lots and lots of fresh water,
beautiful nature and an ugly pulp Mill.
An environmental tourist must be: observant and cautious towards
the nature.
What can you wish to the humankind? To preserve the nature of
the Earth.
Oksana Rusakova, 16, a schoolgirl from the town of Rybnoe,
Ryazan Region. She likes energetic music, strolling about the town
with her friends, singing and having fun. She also likes the
beautiful nature, especially flowers.
For me the Baikal is a splendid and pure lake. It is so huge!
Having seen it I felt myself so free.
An environmental tourist should: Aid the forest, clear it up,
make other people keep it clean, treat ill animals and plants
What would you say to people on Earth? Preserve the nature,
don't let it die. Respect each other, and be kind. And let all be
happy!
Insa Pobuga, 23, a biology student from Bremen, Germany. She
likes photo shooting, painting, spending free time in the open air,
swimming and scuba diving.
For me the Baikal was something unusual somewhere in the Far
East. I heard a lot about it and dreamed one day I could see it
with my own eyes, especially its nature and culture. When I first
came to the Baikal I couldn't descry the other shore; it really
looked as a sea. Such a beautiful nature around! Unfortunately,
I've seen a lot of garbage around.
An environmental tourist should: The environmental tourism is a
chance to preserve the nature, on the other hand it may harm the
virgin landscapes. An environmental tourist should keep the nature
clean and respect it.
What would you say to people on Earth? Everyone should live in
harmony with nature.
Florian Asis Schulz (25), a volunteer from Lunenburg in Germany,
studies environmental science. Lake Baikal for me is…. A chance for
men to show their learning ability. Still a mostly intact piece of
nature: it will change rapidly if humans don't change their way of
treating it.
Ecotourism must be more than just shipping around "greens". Lets
try to reconsider our position and relation towards our
environment.
Ulrich Hafen (22), a volunteer from Ulm in Germany, works in
industry as a mechanic. Lake Baikal for me is….still only a lot of
information. I still don't realy know it. But it seems worth to see
and protect it.
An ecotourist should not only go somewhere to enjoy the intakt
nature and then go home and continue destroying it as before.
What would you say to people on Earth? Get rid of your addiction
to consume. Grow inside instead of materialistic. That's the only
way to get happy and to live in peace.
