Feature story - 2 April, 2009
Initiative groups of Moscow districts, Greenpeace Russia, Russian Green Cross, from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Zelenograd, currently running the campaign «For clean air!», hereby invites the every inhabitant of Moscow to take part in the open meeting against further construction of waste incineration plants the coming saturday, 4th of April at 13 pm.
Stop inceneration! Let's us breath!
The event will take place at Naberezhnaya Tarasa Shevchenko at
the pedestrian bridge Bagration. Passage to Metro "Delovoj Tsentr"
(following the pedestrian bridge over the river), from the bridge
turning we're turning left, down to the riverside.
This is not a political - but an ecological action!
Above 112 000 signatures against inceneration, demanding waste
recycling, has already been handed over to the presidential
administration, but they remain silent.
A part of our signatures were simply forwarded to an inferior
authority (Ministry of Natural Resources) which is not at all in
position of producing legislative bills in accordance with our
proposal.
We are asking the Russian government to immediatelly put up a
legal moratorium against further construction of waste incineration
plants and to adopt a legislation on secondary material resources.
We require an answer from the President.
Inceneration plants causes huge damage regarding our health as
well as our economy. Separate waste collection and recycling of
waste materials are existing alternatives deserving a serious
trial. Recycling and separation would be 4 times cheaper than
simple burning of the waste and does not pollute our air with
toxics.
Stop inceneration! Let's us breath!
