The Himki forest protectors brought signatures addressing Putin V.V. and wood from Himki forest to the White House
On July 22, 2010 the protectors of Himki forest were detained
while handing over the signatures to the Government of the RF. The
environmentalists called for route re-examination of
Moscow-Saint-Petersburg motorway, as well as stopping illegal
cutting in Himki forest.
Himki forest protectors and "Left Front" movement
representatives brought not only signatures addressing Putin V.V.
but also wood from Himki forest. Near the security desk № 3 more
than 10 activists were arrested as the law enforcement officers
considered the handing over of the collective letter to be an
illegal action.
The environmentalists demand to cancel the decree № 1642-p
November 5, 2009 by Putin V.V., the RF Government prime-minister,
according to which 145 hectares of Himki forest park transfer from
the Forest Fund lands to the transport lands for the building of
Moscow-Saint-Petersburg paid highway. The matter concerns the
careless decision of routing which will divide the unique 1000
hectares oak-wood near Moscow in two parts and destroy all
ecosystem.
One should remind that the cutting led without any permit
documentation was stopped by Himki forest protectors last week. The
ecologists organized watching and tent camp. Today on July 21 the
protest camp participants noticed one more illegal cutting on the
territory of Himki forest.
