The Himki forest protectors brought signatures addressing Putin V.V. and wood from Himki forest to the White House

On July 22, 2010 the protectors of Himki forest were detained while handing over the signatures to the Government of the RF. The environmentalists called for route re-examination of Moscow-Saint-Petersburg motorway, as well as stopping illegal cutting in Himki forest.

Himki forest protectors and "Left Front" movement representatives brought not only signatures addressing Putin V.V. but also wood from Himki forest. Near the security desk № 3 more than 10 activists were arrested as the law enforcement officers considered the handing over of the collective letter to be an illegal action.

The environmentalists demand to cancel the decree № 1642-p November 5, 2009 by Putin V.V., the RF Government prime-minister, according to which 145 hectares of Himki forest park transfer from the Forest Fund lands to the transport lands for the building of Moscow-Saint-Petersburg paid highway. The matter concerns the careless decision of routing which will divide the unique 1000 hectares oak-wood near Moscow in two parts and destroy all ecosystem.

One should remind that the cutting led without any permit documentation was stopped by Himki forest protectors last week. The ecologists organized watching and tent camp. Today on July 21 the protest camp participants noticed one more illegal cutting on the territory of Himki forest.
