Greenpeace Russia warns the government of the dangers of climate change

The thaw of permafrost presents a serious threat for the Russian economy, according to a Greenpeace report presented today at a press conference at Information Agency RIA Novosti. Important infrastructure, including thousands of kilometers of oil and gas pipelines in West Siberia, is under threat of damage and destruction. Greenpeace will hand the report to federal and regional governments, as well as major companies.

Today Greenpeace got a refusal from St. Petersburg’s City Administration to make an independent research of the wastewaters discharged into Gulf of Finland by the local’s waste water treatment plants.

As Philips business relations gathered for the Philips Simplicity Event in Moscow’s Red Square to celebrate its 110 years on the Russian market, Greenpeace activists unrolled a banner with the phrase: “Philips: simply take back & recycle! Greenpeace is calling on the company to accept responsibility for its own-branded electronic waste (e-waste). Philips should take back and recycle its products in every country where they are sold, including Russia.

Greenpeace activists conduct a peaceful protest outside the Japanese embassy in Moscow as part of a global campaign against the continued unnecessary detention of two Greenpeace activists in Japan who exposed a large scale embezzlement scandal within the Japanese government-sponsored Southern Ocean whaling program.
