Oil and gas development in the Arctic: At what cost?

Publication - 24 January, 2012
During the last few years the oil and gas industry growth in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (AZRF) has increased. Environmental threats, as well as threats to Indigenous peoples inhabiting the area and their traditional way of living, have grown accordingly.

The report provides answers to questions – what threatens the Arctic region? What are the possible consequences of its oil and gas exploration? Are producing companies ready to take responsibility for the environmental and social situation in the region? Do we want a future build on raw materials while there's an infinite amount of alternatives?

The report is based on an analysis of official data, analytical reports and open sources.
For the preparation of this review the experts of (C) NP "Transparent World" were involved. Satellite images were provided by RDC "ScanEx".
