The Climate Friendly Cities project is a multi-pronged innovative project that aims to contribute to mitigating climate change and to promote sustainable transport and waste management initiatives by introducing renewable energy-based technologies.
The project is an integrated facility for generating electricity for transport from organic waste. Its components are:
a)a fleet of 50 electric jeepneys called E-Jeepneys, each with a capacity of twelve (12) passengers;
b)a depot that will serve as charging station and maintenance center for the fleet, as well as project information center; and
c)a power plant consisting of a generator, a high solid anaerobic digester or biodigester (an industrial system that promotes the decomposition of organic waste to produce biogas that can be used to power electricity generators), and a gas engine.
