Unilever's 'Monkey Business' - Greenpeace swings into action

It's been a busy morning for Greenpeace activists across Europe, many of whom have been dressing up as orang-utans to draw attention to Unilever's "monkey business". Today, we're launching the next stage in our campaign to protect the rainforests of Indonesia from the expansion of the palm oil industry.

Endangered Water, Endangered Lives: Water pollution featured in Greenpeace photo exhibit

Greenpeace opened a photo exhibit today to visualize and highlight the worrying trends of water pollution in Thailand. Captured in the photo exhibit "Endangered Water, Endangered Lives" in CentralWorld are images of water scarcity and pollution coming from industrial and household discharges, and indiscriminate waste management practices.

A Hero for the Environment

TIME magazine's latest issue which features the most innovative and influential protectors of the planet includes Von Hernandez, Campaigns Director of Greenpeace Southeast Asia as one of this year’s Heroes of the Environment. This latest accolade is in recognition of his unrelenting campaign against waste trade and highly polluting waste incinerators in the Philippines and the region.

Photographs taken by Greenpeace paramotors as they launch an ongoing aerial initiative to spot forest and peat fires in an oil palm plantation. The paramotors were launched from the Greenpeace Forest Defenders Camp which opened on the 9th October as part of the organisations campaign to stop forest and peatland destruction caused in part by oil palm plantations. Greenpeace Paramotors begin fire-spotting activities in Riau

Greenpeace launched today fire-spotting activities with paramotors also known as powered paragliders from the Forest Defenders Camp in Riau, Sumatra. These reconnaissance flights will be a regular feature of the camp to provide accurate and timely information to the local fire-fighting authorities as part of its efforts to address the forest fire issue.

iPhone's hazardous chemicals

Scientific tests, arranged by Greenpeace, reveal that Apple's iPhone contains hazardous chemicals. The tests uncovered two types of hazardous substances, some of which have already been eliminated by other mobile phone makers.

Electronics companies green up their act

The latest edition of our quarterly Guide to Greener Electronics shows that major electronics firms have made large, green strides since the guide was first launched in August 2006. Nokia still leads, closely followed by Sony Erricson, Dell and Lenovo.

Indonesia makes it to 2008 Guinness World Records as fastest forest destroyer on the planet

The next edition of the Guinness Book of World Records will list Indonesia as the country with the fastest rate of forest destruction on the planet. Indonesia is destroying an area of forest equivalent to 300 football pitches every hour. It has already lost 72% of its large intact ancient forests (1) and half of what remains is threatened (2).

The Children of Thousand Islands

Kepulauan Seribu or Thousand Islands is a misnomer for a group of 128 islands and sandbars, north of Jakarta in Indonesia. Only 12 of these are inhabited, with a total population of 5000 families mainly dependent on fishing and 'resort' tourism which includes snorkeling and diving resorts.

A greener earth for Angel

Famous actress, model, and mother Angel Aquino simply does not have time to rest. Amidst her busy work and family schedule, she has chosen to give back to Mother Earth by selflessly volunteering for Greenpeace. Here is a woman who truly believes that we cannot go on consuming more of the earth's precious resources without consequences. She also wants everyone to realize that we have the power to change this and that now is the time to act.
