Whale shark encounter

The Whales shark's migration route takes them close to the shores off
Rapu-Rapu Island, site of toxic sea pollution from the Lafayette
mining operation. Greenpeace is in the Philippines to campaign for the
closure of the gold and silver mining operations of Lafayette to
prevent further pollution of the area. The Greenpeace ship Esperanza
is in The Philippines as part of a 15th month global expedition - the
most ambitious the organisation has ever undertaken - to highlight the
threats to and the beauty of the oceans.

In Legazpi bay, near Donsol, we're lucky enough to swim with the largest fish in the sea. The whale shark symbolises the exceptional marine biodiversity of the Philippines. These gentle giants remind us of the precious marine life that we are here to protect.
