Greenpeace calls on EU Funding for forest protection not destruction as it blocks import of palm kernel from Indonesia into France

Yesterday Greenpeace activists in two inflatable boats intercepted a ship in France, the Izmir Castle, carrying 15,000 tonnes of palm kernel from Indonesia in the port of Montoir-de-Bretagne. The Greenpeace activists painted "Climate Crime" on the hull of the cargo ship, while eleven other activists climbed on the top of three cranes unloading the cargo. They also unfurled banners reading "Funding for forest protection, not their destruction".

Greenpeace begins harvesting of organic rice art in Ratchaburi

Greenpeace today announced the commencement of the first phase of harvesting from the giant organic rice art project in Ratchaburi, beginning with the green rice variety. Greenpeace volunteers in Thailand planted the first 'Rice Art' project, as a celebration of Southeast Asia's long heritage of rice cultivation, and to raise awareness about the importance of this staple crop, on which so many of the world's population depend.

Greenpeace challenges ASEAN to get serious about climate threat

Greenpeace today challenged ASEAN leaders to demonstrate collective leadership to protect Southeast Asia’s 850 million people from the debilitating impacts of climate change by committing to zero deforestation and low carbon development, and to force the leaders of the developed countries to agree to deep and binding cuts in global greenhouse gas emissions at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen in December.

Greenpeace welcomes National Climate Change Commission; urges other leaders to get serious about climate threat

Greenpeace today welcomed the formation of Philippines National Climate Change Commission as a necessary step to address the enormous challenge of coping with the devastating impacts of climate change. Greenpeace called upon the Commission to put in place mitigation measures along with the proposed adaptation measures as a matter of urgency on their agenda by strengthening support for the Renewable Energy Law.

Greenpeace today delivered a letter and a bouquet of flowers to congratulate President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on his inauguration for his second presidential term, and for declaring his intention to take leadership in the battle against climate change by reducing Indonesia’s greenhouse emissions by 21 percent by 2020.

GMOs not the answer – straight from the farmers’ mouth

A Thai woman is one of three farmers from around the world who are bringing the issue of the rejection of genetically modified (GMO) crops right to the European Commission’s front doorstep today. The farmers are meeting European Commissioner for health, Androulla Vassiliou, and joining Greenpeace in handing over a petition signed by 180,000 people to stop the authorisation of Bayer GMO rice.
