When he is not touring the world with the Hunks or appearing in TV shows and movies or sailing in Tagaytay, Diether Ocampo is performing with his band in Manila's hot spots. Diether is the frontman of the new alternative band in the local music scene called Blow.
"We play rock music but right now, we're going to start slow," says the
frontman of one of the newest bands in the local music scene called
Blow. He is Diether Ocampo, who remains one of the hottest young
actors in the Philippines today.
Diether is also in the frontline of the Greenpeace campaign to stop
climate change and to push for a massive shift away from coal and
towards renewable energy. "The answer is blowin' in the wind,"
says Diether in a 15-second message he rendered recently with Blow band
members for the international environmental organization. "You
don't have to be a celebrity to be a star," says Diether. "Just
go for clean energy!"
Fans have taken to Blow in the classic expression of fan acceptance -
by headbanging to their songs, especially those found in their album
titled "Blow: Nice and Hard!," the first installment of their trilogy
album under Job Records. Other songs in the album are "Homesick,"
"Buang," "Say it," "Close To You," "Fly with Angels," "Last Breath" and
"Likod Ng Ilaw."
Aside from Diether, the band is composed of back-up vocalist Jasper
Ong, lead guitarist Kessenth Cheng, bassist Kaloy Mojica and drummer
Emil Buencamino.
According to Diether, the name of his band Blow means getting a
different kind of high through music. Ever since Diether was a kid, he
has always digged music, especially rock. It was his father who
civilized him to rock music by taking him to rock joints and making him
listen to Pinoy rock bands during the '80s. From then on, Diether
has harbored the dream of someday forming his own band. His dream has
come true with Blow. "It gives me a different high whenever I perform
with my band,"says Diether.
