More About the Campaign

Greenpeace is campaigning to stop industry contaminating waterways around the world with hazardous chemicals, including those that are persistent and hormone-disrupting. Launched in 2011, the Detox campaign has exposed links between textile manufacturing facilities causing toxic water pollution and many of the world's top clothing brands.

Nike, Adidas, Puma, H&M, Marks & Spencer, C&A and Li-Ning have all committed to clean up their act and Detox, in response to pressure from concerned consumers, supporters and fashionistas around the globe.

Other top clothing companies still need to respond to the urgency of the situation and Detox, including ZARA - the world's number one fashion retailer. Their size, power and influence mean that they are crucial to cleaning up the fashion industry. We tested their clothing items and found traces of hazardous chemicals, including some that break down into cancer-causing substances from the breakdown of dyes. ZARA is clearly part of the problem.

But by working with their suppliers and switching to non-hazardous alternatives, they can become part of the solution. Join our campaign to convince ZARA to Detox.
