A security officer from the Bureau of Plant Industries, without proper protective garb against GE contamination, removes a sign calling attention to hazards posed by genetically-engineered Bt talong (eggplant) in a field trial site in Bay town in the province of Laguna. The sign was put up by a decontamination unit from environmental activist group Greenpeace during operations to prevent contamination, February 17, 2011. Greenpeace is asking the Dept. of Agriculture to halt and decontaminate all field trials, ban all GE food crops and properly implement the Organic Agriculture Act by directing time and resources to ecological agriculture practices.
