While mangroves are fascinating places to study and and an important part of the ecosystem, us humans can have a hard time doing research in them. Scientists coming from the Colleges of Fisheries and of Science of Bicol Univeristy who conducted a rapid ecosystem survey in Donsol concluded that overall, the state of coral cover, sea grass, and mangrove cover in Donsol is fair to good. Greenpeace together with local scientists are calling for the protection of burias-ticao pass from illegal and destructive fishing that contributes to the overall deterioration of the marine ecosystem.
