A bigeye thresher shark's head being discarded at the local market in Donsol. Thresher shark meat is sold in abundance in this region even though these sharks can be worth much more alive than dead. The head is not valuable but the fins are, these precious fins are already cut off before the animal reaches the market and are sold for top dollar to the chinese market where demands for sharkfin soup are huge. The meat is mainly consumed locally and is relatively inexpensive.
