A scientist from Universty of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI) deploys an ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) a hydroacoustic current meter similar to a sonar, attempting to measure water current velocities over a depth range using the Doppler effect of sound waves scattered back from particles within the water column. Greenpeace together with UP MSI conducts a scientific demonstration on Manila Bay pollutants as part of the Ocean Defender tour. The Greenpeace ship, M/Y Esperanza is in the Philippines for the “Ocean Defender Tour of Southeast Asia 2013.” The tour aims to tell the story of the richness and the beauty of the Philippine seas, expose destruction that causes marine degradation and sound the alarm to call for urgent government action to save the Philippine seas from crisis.
